Streamline the to-do list: in the car

We all know that it’s environmentally responsible to group our errands to save energy (gas) and reduce pollution. If we really put some thought into this, we can save another type of energy (human, meaning: yours.)

When we keep a list of tasks that need to be done while we’re out in the car, it’s amazing how many can be accomplished in one trip. Picking up groceries, dry cleaning, & library books, and dropping off recycling combines four possible trips into one loop.

If you  are the chauffeur for children going to music lessons, sports practices, or other activities, that half or whole hour may suddenly become very productive.

I find that if the weekly meal plan is in place,  I can cut the grocery trips down to one, rather than stopping in every day.

If you have to sit and wait to pick someone up, try to make good use of that time by taking along some portable jobs. No, you can’t wash dishes, but you can return calls, clear old messages off your phone, mark quizzes, or sew buttons on shirts. You could even keep a dustcloth and package of glass wipes in the car, and use that time to give the inside a quick cleaning!

Make it easy on yourself by keeping a bin near the door for things you need to remember to take with you when you go; at the last minute, you don’t want to be running all over the house, looking for those library books.
